WASHINGTON – Vanita Gupta, president and CEO of The Leadership Conference on Civil and Human Rights, issued the following statement on the passage of the Congressional Accountability Act of 1995 Reform Act by both the Senate and House:

“We are pleased that Congress has finally passed a bill that expands and strengthens protections against workplace harassment and discrimination for legislative branch employees. This bill also takes a first step toward greater accountability of members of Congress. We need to ensure these protections are fully enforced and that remaining gaps, including member reimbursement for discrimination claims, are addressed. There is still much work to do to strengthen and expand protections against harassment and discrimination for all workers, but this is a long overdue step in the right direction. We urge the president to quickly sign this bill into law.”
