Janus v. AFSCME: This Case is About Civil and Human Rights

WASHINGTON—Seema Nanda, executive vice president and COO of The Leadership Conference on Civil and Human Rights, issued the following statement on the U.S. Supreme Court’s oral arguments today in Janus v. AFSCME:

“Standing in the way of strong unions, and blocking the pathway to economic security, does not create an America as good as its ideals. Janus is not only about workers’ rights or public-sector employee rights.  This case is about civil and human rights. Union members’ efforts to win higher wages, healthcare, anti-discrimination policies, and equality in the workplace have benefited all people, particularly women and people of color.

The civil and human rights community will continue to fight against relentless attacks on the economic security of working people in America. The Supreme Court must do right by all working people.”
