WASHINGTON — Wade Henderson, interim president and CEO of The Leadership Conference on Civil and Human Rights, issued the following statement on the passing of civil rights activist Vernon Jordan, a 2000 recipient of the Hubert H. Humphrey Civil and Human Rights Award, the civil rights community’s highest honor:

WASHINGTON – On Tuesday, March 2, at 12 p.m. ET, Senator Chris Coons (D-Del.) and civil rights, law enforcement, and conservative leaders will host a press call urging the Senate to expeditiously confirm Vanita Gupta to serve as the next associate attorney general at the U.S. Department of Justice. The Senate is scheduled to hold a hearing on her nomination on March 9.
