WASHINGTON— Wade Henderson, president and CEO of The Leadership Conference on Civil and Human Rights, issued the following statement on the voluntary agreement between the California Department of Fair Employment and Housing (DFEH) and Airbnb addressing steps to prevent and combat bias and discrimination on Airbnb’s platform. The agreement follows a complaint filed by DFEH that led to more than 10 months of investigation and collaborative work between DFEH and Airbnb:

“The Leadership Conference is pleased that Airbnb has voluntarily made new commitments to fight discrimination in the State of California. Importantly, Airbnb has promised to gather and maintain some critical disaggregated data, to track changes in acceptance rates, and to show ‘statistically significant’ improvements over the next year and a half. This agreement upholds the principle that there should no discrimination in housing.  It is a step in the right direction and we look forward to seeing Airbnb continue to make progress on this important issue.”

The agreement is available here.
