Civil Rights Coalition Applauds Congress??? Decision to Extend DTV Transition

“We applaud Congress today for acting to extend the digital television deadline from February 17 to June 12.  Millions of people are aware of the changeover, but just as many are confused by just what the transition means for them.

LCCREF has partnered with local organizations to open brick and mortar DTV Assistance Centers in a handful of target cities. These Centers are fielding questions daily from confused residents, some of whom need help getting on the waiting list for a coupon, while others are confused about which box to buy and how to set it up. 

We caution, though, that an extension without action doesn’t mean anything. Congress, the Federal Communications Commission, the National Telecommunications and Information Administration, and community partners must work together during this hiatus so that Americans aren’t left in the dark.”
