“The Leadership Conference on Civil Rights applauds Congress and President Obama for passing the Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP) reauthorization bill that ensures that children from low-income families and pregnant women will get the health care they need.  Of particular importance, this law ends years of discrimination against legal immigrants, finally including them in the CHIP program.

Quality health care is a civil right and assuring access to that care for everyone is a top priority for the civil rights community.  Illness and lack of insurance make it impossible for children and families to realize the American dream. Today we thank Congress and the President for extending this right to all communities.”
