The PBS series “POV” will air “William Kunstler: Disturbing the Universe” next week, a film that reviews Kunstler’s life and work from the perspective of his daughters, Emily and Sarah.

Kunstler, who went to Mississippi in 1961 to help represent civil rights activists participating in the famous Freedom Rides, became known nationally for representing anti-war protestors in the “Chicago Seven” trial of 1969.

In addition to his civil rights work of the 1960’s and early 1970’s, the documentary also focuses on Kunstler’s later work defending criminals such as noted mafia boss John Gotti and other controversial defendants. Having come of age during the latter stages of their father’s career, the filmmakers personally explore Kunstler’s divided legacy.

William Kunstler: Disturbing the Universe” will air on PBS stations starting June 22. Check your local listings. The film will also be available for viewing online from June 23 – September 21, 2010 at www.pbs.org/pov/disturbingtheuniverse.
