Public Charge Rule Aims To Further Punish Immigrant Families

WASHINGTON – Vanita Gupta, president and CEO of The Leadership Conference on Civil and Human Rights, issued the following statement on the Department of Homeland Security’s proposed public charge rule published today:

“The ‘public charge’ rule is the latest act of spite from an administration that ripped children from their parents’ arms and continues to violate court orders in its treatment of these children. The blunt message to immigrants remains the same: this administration is so hostile to immigrant families that it wants to punish them for tending to their most basic human needs.

“The entire civil and human rights community is united in opposing this rule, and we will work together to get DHS, Congress, and the courts to reject it.”
