In honor of Black History Month, SCOTUSblog, a blog that covers the U.S. Supreme Court, will run a series of articles throughout February focusing on the impact that the Supreme Court has had on race, in the law and in American society.

The series, entitled “Race and the Supreme Court,” will feature articles from an array of prominent lawyers and professionals who represent a wide range of opinions, including noted civil rights lawyers like Vernon Jordan, the former president of the National Urban League, and Stanford law professor Pamela Karlan.

The first post of the month was written by Harvard law professor Michael Klarman. Klarman’s essay explores the impact of the Supreme Court on African Americans’ fight for equality throughout the 20th century.

Future posts in the series will discuss race and political representation, evolving views on race, Brown v. Board of Education, and other influential court decisions on race and justice.
