Senate Committee Advances Kavanaugh, FBI Investigation Still Needed

WASHINGTON – Vanita Gupta, president and CEO of The Leadership Conference on Civil and Human Rights, issued this statement following the Senate Judiciary Committee voted, on a party line basis, to advance the nomination of Brett Kavanaugh to Supreme Court, while also calling for an FBI investigation into the sexual assault allegations:

“Despite Republicans’ desperate efforts to ignore serious, credible sexual assault allegations against Kavanaugh, Republican Senator Jeff Flake joined the Democratic members to demand an FBI investigation. As we have said, nonpartisan professional investigators must now look into these serious allegations.

“Kavanaugh’s belligerent, partisan, and deceptive testimony is disqualifying. While we need further investigation in the allegations, Kavanaugh has repeatedly shown his credibility problems, and has a dark cloud hanging over him. All Senators must vote no.”
