Senate Must Halt Sham Kavanaugh Hearings

WASHINGTON – Vanita Gupta, president and CEO of The Leadership Conference on Civil and Human Rights, issued the following statement on the need for the Senate to halt the nomination of Brett Kavanaugh to be an Associate Justice of the Supreme Court of the United States:

“Trump is an unindicted co-conspirator in crimes to influence the outcome of the 2016 presidential election. He cannot choose his own judge and jury – certainly not Brett Kavanaugh, who has said that the president is above the law and should be immune from investigation. This is no time for sham hearings, particularly when Senate Republicans are hiding crucial records from the public about Kavanaugh. All senators must put country over party and halt this nomination. Our democracy and the rule of law are at stake.”
