The Leadership Conference Education Fund Welcomes Census Counts Communications Director

WASHINGTON – The Leadership Conference Education Fund has announced the hire of Tamika Turner as national communications director for the Census Counts campaign. Census Counts is a collaborative campaign involving more than 15 national organizations and dozens of community partners in more than 30 states working together to make sure that the 2020 Census is fair and accurate.

“We are excited to welcome Tamika to our outstanding census team,” said Beth Lynk, Census Counts campaign director. “Her experience as a skilled messenger and communicator will help ensure that we reach all communities – particularly those that have been historically missed in the Census – to invite them to participate in the upcoming 2020 Census. Having her on board will help us multiply our efforts to ensure a robust get-out-the-count effort leading into next year.”

Tamika Turner joins our Census Counts team as the new national communications director. Turner most recently worker at Planned Parenthood Federation of America, as Associate Director of Constituency Communications. There she directed media, digital, and brand strategy to engage, educate, and mobilize people of color, LGBTQ people, young people, and people of faith on reproductive health care and advocacy. Prior to Planned Parenthood, Turner was the press secretary for U.S. Senator Sherrod Brown. She is a graduate of Miami University, in Oxford, Ohio.

The Leadership Conference Education Fund builds public will for federal policies that promote and protect the civil and human rights of all persons in the United States. The Education Fund’s campaigns empower and mobilize advocates around the country to push for progressive change in the United States. It was founded in 1969 as the education and research arm of The Leadership Conference on Civil and Human Rights.
