Gov. Quinn signs Illinois Dream Act

Governor Pat Quinn of Illinois signed the DREAM Act today, setting up a “commission to raise private money for college scholarships” for undocumented students. The law lays out specific conditions students must adhere and satisfy to qualify for these funds.
Opposing the Health Law, Florida Refuses Millions

Governor Rick Scott of Florida is refusing to comply with the Affordable Care Act, even if that means pushing millions of federal dollars away from those in need in his state. The governor is defending his position on the grounds that the federal law is unconstitutional and that states are not required to accept grants.
Farmers Oppose G.O.P. Bill on Immigration

Farmers are opposed to E-Verify, the Republican-sponsored bill that would “force them and all other employers to verify the legal immigration status of their workers.” This bill would cripple the agricultural industry by significantly decreasing the amount of low-wage labor the industry relies on.
