MLK’s Unfinished Business

Since his death in 1968, the civil and human rights movement has carried on Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.’s work, broken down barriers, and created new opportunities for many who once faced exclusion and discrimination based on race, ethnicity, national origin, age, sex, disability, religion or sexual orientation.

But as King saw in 1968, chronic poverty and the lack of opportunity still sadly continue to produce racial inequality in the United States and around the world.

As the infographic below shows, racial disparities in unemployment, education, poverty, mass incarceration, and financial wealth remain among the challenges our society must continue to confront and overcome.
