What does the Federal Budget Debate Really Mean?

This week, the House of Representatives will debate legislation that would single out millions of low-income children, seniors, and other vulnerable people to shoulder the burden of reducing the deficit. Passing this legislation could mean extreme cuts to nutrition, health care and other needed assistance, instead of examining the military budget for greater cost reductions and instead of asking the millionaires who hold most of the wealth in this nation to pay their fare share. These cuts are proposed in a budget procedure called “reconciliation.”
