Our mission:
The Leadership Conference on Civil and Human Rights is a coalition charged by its diverse membership of more than 200 national organizations to promote and protect the civil and human rights of all persons in the United States. Through advocacy and outreach to targeted constituencies, The Leadership Conference works toward the goal of a more open and just society – an America as good as its ideals.
The Leadership Conference Education Fund builds public will for federal policies that promote and protect the civil and human rights of all persons in the United States. The Education Fund’s campaigns empower and mobilize advocates around the country to push for progressive change in the United States.
Positions available:
Field Program Associate
The Field Program Associate works with the Vice President for Field Operations and field team to:
• Provide strategic technical support to national, state and local partner organizations including; the campaign strategy development, grassroots outreach and training, media and messaging. Work as a member of the field team to leverage public education activity, training, and planning for local coalition work, including but not limited to national conferences, national and state-based conference calls, and state/local events as opportunities to educate and engage grassroots leaders on these critical civil rights issues.
• Research, write, and post alerts and outreach pieces for online and hard-copy publications and grassroots tool.
• Coordinate the field department’s organizational visibility and off-line list-building efforts, such as tabling and event attendance.
• Strategically use social media tools and online organizing to promote field priorities and engage diverse communities.
• Gather updates and reports on constituent activities in the field, through conference calls and other opportunities to connect with allies.
• Work with departmental staff in the management and coordination of grassroots taskforces, and the development of work plans and strategies for task force activity. Coordinate national grassroots conference calls and provide support for the administration of them.
Director of Human Resources and Administration
The Director of Human Resources and Administration is responsible for setting strategic human resource and administrative direction; providing a perspective on growth and expansion; and supporting and sustaining a culture of The Leadership Conference/The Education Fund as a great place to work.
The Director will develop a thorough understanding of the offices’ requirements regarding human resources, administrative functions and physical plant needs. He/She will partner with executive management to identify talent gaps and address the needs of departments, vice presidents, directors, managers and staff in key positions. The Director is responsible for full, accurate and equitable administration of all compensation and benefits and will be directly responsible for monitoring the day-to-day work and direct supervision of the Receptionist and Office Coordinator. The Director of Human Resources and Administration will be supervised by the Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer.
Staff Accountant
The Staff Accountant is a position within the Department of Finance and Administration, responsible for performing a wide range of financial and accounting duties for the organizations.
Among the responsibilities and duties are: to prepare month end closings, prepare year end work, on an ongoing basis review accounts payable invoices and checks, draft budget proposals as needed, review accounts payable, oversee staff timesheets, and perform other related duties as directed.
Summer, Spring, Fall Internships
The Leadership Conference and The Education Fund offer a substantive, fast-paced internship program designed to give undergraduate students interested in civil and human rights, public service, advocacy, journalism and online communications, real-world work experience in the policy arena. The program provides interns the chance to increase their knowledge and awareness of civil and human rights issues, enhance their understanding of coalition politics, and observe the legislative process of our federal government. Interns are fully integrated into staff activities and involved in field operations, development work, web content, and communications work.
