The Leadership Conference Education Fund salutes athletes who kneel in protest of racial injustice and police violence. We join their demands for a country where everyone is free from discrimination.
They dare to kneel against police brutality. They dare to kneel against mass incarceration. They dare to kneel against oppression.
What would you dare to kneel against?
For decades, The Education Fund has led efforts to protect civil and human rights for all and we know their protest is consistent with the highest ideals of the civil rights movement. At The Education Fund, we’re working to eliminate bias at every stage in the criminal legal system – from arrest and pretrial detention, to sentencing and incarceration, to re-entry. We work to address structural inequalities, increase transparency and accountability throughout the system, and break down barriers that prevent people who have had contact with the system from engaging fully in society.
Our country has ignored these injustices for far too long.
Athletes who peacefully protest police violence and mass incarceration embody our nation’s long tradition of fighting for a democracy that protects the civil and human rights of all. Show solidarity with the athletes who dare to dream, dare to believe, and dare to kneel.
SIGN THE PLEDGE
Dissent is part of the very foundation of our democracy. Courageous advocates have lost their lives in the act of dissent to make a better future for people of color and other marginalized groups. Non-violent protest was a catalyst in achieving landmark victories such as the Civil Rights Act of 1964 and the Voting Rights Act of 1965 and remains essential to activating change today. Athletes who peacefully protest police violence and mass incarceration embody the very spirit of the American values of liberty, freedom and justice for all. By daring to kneel, they join a long tradition of fighting for a democracy that protects the civil and human rights of all — moving us closer to an America as good as its ideals.
We pledge to show solidarity with athletes who kneel in protest of racial inequality, mass incarceration, police brutality and other injustices that continue to disproportionately affect communities of color.
Our country has ignored these injustices for far too long.
We join their demands to build a nation where everyone is safe from discrimination. Their protest sheds light on racial injustice, operating in the highest traditions of the civil rights struggle.
