Unemployment Rate Falls in February, U.S. Adds 192K Jobs

The Bureau of Labor Statistics reported that 192,000 jobs were added to the U.S. Economy in February. The majority of jobs were added in manufacturing, construction, professional and business services, health care, and transportation and warehousing.
“I think it’s a great number for the economy and a great number for the American worker,” said Wells Fargo economist John Silvia. “For the private sector — we haven’t seen a number like this since 2006.”

The continuing foreclosure crisis confirms that government efforts to assist homeowners are insufficient. As a result of the failed policies, House Republicans have introduced legislation that would discontinue these federal antiforeclosure programs. However, they do not offer alternatives.

Police Chiefs Wary of Immigration Role

A report released by a police research group, the Police Executive Research Forum, states that local police departments are hesitant to take on immigration enforcement. This is in response to state legislatures considering laws that would expand the role of local police departments to include immigration control.
