New Video: Protect Voters in OH, CO, and WI as Countdown to Election Begins

“If voting wasn’t important, would people be trying to steal it?”

Election Day is just one month away and our coalition of organizations in the Every Voter Counts campaign is working hard to elevate the focus on voter protection and turnout. Ohioans recently organized to fight voter suppression that disproportionately impacts African Americans, while Latinos in Colorado are fighting voter purges and other dirty tricks aimed at keeping Latino voters from participating in elections. In Wisconsin, students and young people are also organizing to make sure their votes are protected! Across the nation, people from a spectrum of backgrounds and groups are ramping up their efforts.

Why now? Because early voting has begun in some states and registration deadlines are approaching.

To help tell the story of our efforts in Ohio, Wisconsin, and Colorado, we’ve created the video Every Voter Counts. Will you share the video to help make sure that every voter is counted in these states and across the US? Please link to https://civilrights.org/Vote2012 for the animated “Weeknight Update” special report and links to voter resources.

Over a dozen states have enacted new restrictive voting laws that threaten to limit who can vote. Who are the most likely voters to be affected by voting laws? The answer = Students, people of color, low-income communities, and older Americans. The United States has a history of expanding the vote and celebrating diversity, and we want to keep it that way!

We at The Leadership Conference Education Fund are working with allies at the local, state, and national levels to strengthen the right to vote and ensure that every single vote counts.

Share away! Great job helping spread word!
