President Obama Talks Education Reform on ‘The Today Show’

President Obama sat down to talk with Matt Lauer on “The Today Show,” today about what he thinks the country needs to do to reform education in America.

He discusses the need for great teachers, the nation’s dropout crisis, and the controversy around his Race to the Top program.  He also, right at the top of the interview, makes the case for why education reform (as hard as it may be) is critical:

“But…part of the challenge I think for the entire country is to understand that how well we do economically – whether jobs are created here, high-end jobs that support families and support the future of the American people – is gonna depend on whether or not we can do something about these schools.”
