Press Call Briefing: More Police in Schools Is Not the Solution to Gun Violence

Media 03.16,18

WASHINGTONOn Monday, March 19 at 11:00 a.m. ET, The Leadership Conference on Civil and Human Rights, Advancement Project, National Disability Rights Network, and the NAACP Legal Defense and Educational Fund will host a telephone press briefing to discuss why current efforts in Congress and by the Trump administration to increase “school security” will not address our gun violence epidemic.

Pumping money into schools for law enforcement, higher “security measures” like metal detectors, and the establishment of a “threat assessment” hotline to report students who may be in crisis are not real solutions to ending gun violence in our country. Civil rights and education experts will discuss how militarizing schools will harm and further criminalize our children, especially children of color and children with disabilities, not make them safer.
