Confirmation of Nalbandian Threatens Voting Rights
WASHINGTON – Vanita Gupta, president and CEO of The Leadership Conference on Civil and Human Rights, issued the following statement after the U.S. Senate confirmed the nomination of John Nalbandian to the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit:
“John Nalbandian is a partisan and ideological lawyer whose sustained loyalty to ultra conservative interest groups demonstrates that he is not fit to be an impartial federal judge. His history of defending discriminatory photo ID laws and other barriers to voting shows that if confirmed he will not uphold crucial civil and human rights laws.”
Last month, The Leadership Conference wrote to the Senate urging opposition to John Nalbandian’s confirmation. That letter is available here.
