WASHINGTON – Vanita Gupta, president and CEO of The Leadership Conference on Civil and Human Rights, issued the following statement on the confirmation of Chad Readler to be a United States Circuit Judge for the Sixth Circuit:
“The fight to preserve health insurance for millions of Americans with pre-existing medical conditions suffered another setback today when Senate Republicans confirmed Trump’s leading lawyer who argued that those protections should be ended. Every senator who voted for Readler has made clear their hostility toward those with pre-existing conditions. Readler has been a principal defender of some of the worst parts of Trump’s anti-civil rights agenda, including attacks on the Affordable Care Act, the discriminatory Muslim ban, the politicization of the 2020 Census, and the restriction of voting rights. Readler’s egregious record underscores he will not serve as a fair and impartial judge.”
