WASHINGTON – Vanita Gupta, president and CEO of The Leadership Conference on Civil and Human Rights, issued the following statement on the passage of H. Res. 183:

“Hate has no place in our government or our country.

“As a multi-faith, multi-racial, multi-ethnic coalition, The Leadership Conference strongly condemns anti-Semitism, anti-Muslim discrimination, and all types of hatred. Bigotry, in any form, is wrong and runs counter to American values.

“This controversy has received considerable attention even as other government officials – including the head of our government – repeatedly use hateful rhetoric with little consequence.

“We urge all members to rebuke and reject language that divides us.”

The Leadership Conference on Civil and Human Rights is a coalition charged by its diverse membership of more than 200 national organizations to promote and protect the rights of all persons in the United States.
