WASHINGTON – Kristine Lucius, executive vice president for policy and government affairs at The Leadership Conference on Civil and Human Rights, issued the following statement on the Senate’s vote to advance the nomination of Daniel Collins to the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit:

“The Senate advanced the nomination of Daniel Collins to the Ninth Circuit today, despite objections to his confirmation by both Ranking Member Feinstein and Senator Harris, his home-state senators. His failure to state that the bedrock Brown v. Board of Education decision was correctly decided alone is disqualifying. But he also bears a long and indefensible record of aggressively restricting civil and human rights protections for women, vulnerable communities that interact with the justice system, and consumers left at the mercy of corporations that put profits over people. Clearly, Collins is an ideological and partisan actor who will not serve as a fair and independent arbiter. Senators must reject this blatantly partisan attack on the Ninth Circuit.”

Read The Leadership Conference’s letter of opposition to the confirmation of Daniel Collins, and our letter in opposition to all judicial nominees, including Collins, who refuse to state unequivocally that Brown was correctly decided.
