WASHINGTON – Kristine Lucius, executive vice president for policy and government affairs at The Leadership Conference on Civil and Human Rights, issued the following statement on the confirmations of Jeffrey Brown to be United States District Judge for the Southern District of Texas and Brantley Starr to be United States District Judge for the Northern District of Texas:

“Senate Republicans continue to place party over country in their pursuit to stack our courts with loyalists and biased nominees like Brown and Starr, who are both hostile to voting rights, LGBTQ equality, reproductive rights, and immigrant rights. Additionally, neither one would even state that the bedrock civil rights decision Brown v. Board of Education was correctly decided. Senate Republicans will stop at nothing to stack the courts with partisan judges who will push their radical agenda through at any cost. In doing so, they are not only degrading our courts, but also endangering our democracy.”
