Walker Is Unfit for a Lifetime Seat

WASHINGTON – Lena Zwarensteyn, Fair Courts Campaign Director at The Leadership Conference on Civil and Human Rights, issued the following statement on today’s Senate vote to confirm the nomination of Justin Walker to serve on the U. S. District Court for the Western District of Kentucky:

“Federal judges should be fair and independent, but Walker’s confirmation is pure nepotism. We cannot ignore the correlation here. Last year, Walker gives more than 100 interviews in defense of Kavanaugh, praises him as a ‘warrior’ for ‘conservative legal principles, and today, holds a lifetime seat on a federal district court, despite being clearly underqualified.

“Justin Walker’s significant lack of trial experience, in particular, prompted the American Bar Association to give him a once-rare ‘Not Qualified’ rating. Despite this warning, Trump and McConnell have now rewarded him for his relentless loyalty during the tumultuous Supreme Court nomination fight last year.

“Walker’s inexperience and hostility toward access to health care and civil rights and public protections make him wholly unfit for this position. But equally alarming is the unusual path that has led him to now wield a daunting amount of influence through our courts.”
