WASHINGTON – Lena Zwarensteyn, Fair Courts campaign director at The Leadership Conference on Civil and Human Rights, issued the following statement on the Senate’s confirmation of Stephen Schwartz to the U.S. Court of Federal Claims:

“It is especially shameful that Trump and McConnell’s far-right extremist nominees like Stephen Schwartz are getting more of the Senate’s time and attention than the people in this country who have been devastated by COVID-19. The Senate should tend to the immediate and important business of the people, but instead they just confirmed a nominee who opposes Medicare, Social Security, and government spending on health insurance. It’s despicable that this nominee who is wholly unfit for the Court of Federal Claims has been confirmed in the midst of this public health and economic crisis.”

Read The Leadership Conference’s letter in opposition to the confirmation of Stephen Schwartz. Schwartz has previously claimed that “inequality of means and resources is a natural aspect of the human condition,” programs like Social Security and Medicare are “harmful,” and that “abortion is wrong.”
