Judge Calabretta’s Experience Will Be an Asset to the Eastern District of California

WASHINGTON – Lena Zwarensteyn, senior director of the fair courts program at The Leadership Conference on Civil and Human Rights, released the following statement after the Senate confirmed Judge Daniel Calabretta to the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of California.

“Judge Calabretta has dedicated his career to the pursuit of equal justice and will bring years of experience as a fair-minded state jurist to the federal bench. Prior to his service on the bench, he defended the civil and human rights of all people, including advancing marriage equality. Our federal judiciary needs more judges who reflect our communities — and importantly, Judge Calabretta will be the first openly LGBTQ judge to serve on the Eastern District of California.  We applaud the senators who supported this historic confirmation.”
