WASHINGTON – Lena Zwarensteyn, senior director of the fair courts program at The Leadership Conference on Civil and Human Rights, released the following statement after the Senate Judiciary Committee hearing on the nomination of Judge Ana de Alba to the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit:

“Judge Ana de Alba’s judicial experience and her commitment to civil rights make her highly qualified to serve on the Ninth Circuit. She has already served as a fair-minded jurist on the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of California and the Fresno County Superior Court. Judge de Alba will bring important and historically underrepresented perspectives to the appellate court as a Latina attorney who has represented people experiencing employment discrimination and workplace harassment. We urge the Senate to confirm Judge de Alba — and the many other pending nominees with demonstrated commitments to civil and human rights — so that our courts better reflect the varied perspectives and rich diversity of our nation.”

The Leadership Conference on Civil and Human Rights is a coalition charged by its diverse membership of more than 230 national organizations to promote and protect the rights of all persons in the United States.
