About the Role:

We seek a Manager, Digital Writer to join our Communications Department. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience writing compelling multi-generational email and digital content for advocacy communication campaigns. We are seeking a digital aficionado to write for our email, text, and additional digital assets that include, but are not limited to, our blogs and website content. This role will oversee the email and SMS content calendar for the team and will also assist in building comprehensive digital campaigns as it relates to the issues that drive The Leadership Conference mission. The ideal candidate for this position is passionate about civil and human rights and has prior experience managing a community and creating content—both written and visual. This position will report to the Sr. Director, Digital, Social, & Creative. This position is part of the collective bargaining unit.

What you will do:

  • Build, test, and execute messaging for digital content for multi-generational audiences
  • Manage email, push notifications, SMS lists and data integration between the messaging provider (Adobe Marketing Cloud) and CRM, text message provider and database
  • Coordinate/Manage email, push notifications/SMS calendar, with social, content and larger Communications team
  • Responsible for managing daily operations of email marketing, push notifications and SMS channels including content production, contact strategy development, list management, segmentation, development, QA, deployment, testing and optimization, as well as analytics and reporting
  • Produce and execute all email and SMS campaigns (Peer to Peer and Broadcast Messaging) including creating templates and HTML, copywriting, asset coordination, QA, scheduling and posting to the organization’s website
  • Devise, execute and A/B test across email marketing campaigns to ensure optimal clickthrough rates, and drive conversions across mobile, desktop, dark mode, etc.
  • Perform render testing across devices, email clients, and ISP’s to ensure emails are responsive and rendering correctly for the majority of the subscriber base
  • Manage campaign workflows and coordinate with creative, digital marketing and communication teams, and other internal teams to ensure deadlines are met
  • Assist in website content creation and maintenance through a content management system (CMS)
  • Track, present, and communicate results, success metrics and recommendations for improvement verbally and written to internal and external teams
  • Coordinate, when necessary, with social media teams for content production for social media platforms (Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, YouTube, Google)
  • Email deliverability and contact list cleaning
  • Coordinate with 3rd party vendors and systems as needed for email deployment and troubleshooting
  • Other duties as necessary and related

 What you will bring: 

  • A minimum of 5 years of digital and social media communications experience is required, and in nonprofits is preferred
  • Passion for researching emerging digital trends, audience strategy, and experimentation with new platforms
  • Demonstrated analytical analysis of results and strategic planning
  • Positive attitude, self-motivated, creative individual
  • Expert written and verbal communication skills
  • Excellent time-management skills and the ability to shift gears in a fast-paced environment are a must
  • Experience with digital fundraising programs is a plus
  • Project management experience collaborating and managing both internal teams and external vendors on the development of email templates, copy and strategy that follows an integrated marketing strategy
  • Experience with Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign)
  • Strong knowledge of A/B testing tools
  • Knowledge of SEO/SEM
  • Understanding of solid deliverability through monitoring inbox deliverability, unsubscribe/spam compliant rates and other deliverability metrics
  • Proven ability to manage content calendars and build comprehensive digital campaigns
  • Familiarity with maintaining an organization’s narrative and message structure
  • Experience working with email CRM and grassroot advocacy systems (i.e. Hustle, Voter Access Networks (VAN), Razor’s Edge, Salesforce, Auorum)
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team
  • Ability to work in a remote environment, utilizing collaborative tools such as Google Drive, Microsoft Teams, Zoom, Slack, Monday.com and more
  • Keen eye for detail and accuracy with an ability to surface any troubling posts or compromises

Salary Range – $90,249 – $94,817, dependent on years of related experience.

Currently, staff have the option to work from the office or home while we determine our long-term policy on remote and hybrid work. Please note this position is not permanently remote and over time the person filling this role may be required to work on occasion or regularly from the Washington, DC-based office.
