The Tulsa Massacre was not the first nor last time that white supremacist mobs have burned and murdered Black people, businesses, homes, and communities to destroy the success they achieved despite the barriers they faced. America should not be afraid of Black success, wealth, and joy. This country needs to reckon with its history of economic violence and the racial wealth gap it has created — making generational wealth a privilege typically only afforded to white people. It is time for truth, reconciliation, and reparations for all Black Americans so healing can begin. Because when Black people are empowered to thrive, everybody does as a result.
