On behalf of The Leadership Conference on Civil and Human Rights, a coalition charged by its diverse membership of more than 200 national organizations to promote and protect the civil and human rights of all persons in the United States, we urge you to vote against H.R.5, the Student Success Act. While the measure, taken as a whole, fails to uphold the historic civil rights intent of the Elementary and Secondary Education Act, we do encourage you to support certain amendments and show your support for students and educators.
We urge you to support:
Quigley Amendment (#96)
Students deserve access to qualified paraprofessionals.
Fudge Amendment (#20)
Schools, educators and students deserve the resources they need to meet ambitious academic standards.
Davis Amendment (#119)
Collective bargaining should be maintained.
Bonamici Amendment (#104)
States should be supported in eliminating unnecessary state and local assessments and improving the use of assessments.
