Support the Bring Jobs Home Act, S. 3364: Vote in Favor of Cloture and for Final Passage
Recipient: U.S. Senate
Dear Senator:
On behalf of The Leadership Conference on Civil and Human Rights, a coalition charged by its diverse membership of over 210 national organizations to promote and protect the rights of all persons in the United States, we urge you to support the Bring Jobs Home Act (S. 3364), by voting in favor of cloture, against any weakening amendments, and for final passage. Introduced by Senator Debbie Stabenow, D. Mich., S. 3364 would help protect U.S. workers by eliminating the rewards companies receive for outsourcing jobs, and instead rewarding those businesses that bring jobs back to the United States with a tax credit. This critical legislation would help create and keep jobs in the U.S.
The Leadership Conference believes the workplace rights of employees are civil and human rights and this bill helps protects the rights of workers. S. 3664 makes two common-sense changes in U.S. tax policy to encourage companies to return jobs to the United States. S. 3364 ends a current tax break for U.S. companies that outsource jobs and activity. The bill also provides a 20 percent tax credit to encourage U.S. companies to move operations back to the United States.
As a result of outsourcing practices, at least 6 million Americans have lost their jobs, and more than 50,000 manufacturing facilities have closed. The unemployment rate is now above 8 percent, and it is higher for communities of color and people with disabilities. During this time of economic hardship, with millions of individuals who are unemployed, underemployed, and struggling to support their families, it is imperative that we invest in our workforce. The bill represents a real way Congress can put Americans back to work and support economic growth at home.
The Bring Jobs Home Act is an important step toward creating jobs in our country by closing loopholes that hurt working-class Americans and rewarding companies that create and keep jobs at home. We urge you to support economic security for working families by supporting the Bring Jobs Home Act, S. 3364, when it comes to the floor.
