Vote Recommendation: Oppose H.R. 6914 – Pregnant Students Rights Act
Dear Member of Congress,
The Leadership Conference on Civil and Human Rights, a coalition of more than 240 national organizations committed to promoting and protecting the civil and human rights of all persons in the United States, urges you to oppose H.R.6914 – Pregnant Students’ Rights Act of 2023, when it comes up for a vote on the House floor. Far from protecting pregnant and parenting students from discrimination, this bill promotes a narrow political agenda to limit students’ access to reproductive healthcare, contrasts with existing legal protections for pregnant students experiencing a range of outcomes related to their pregnancies, and does not contain any meaningful supports that would actually help pregnant and parenting students be able to remain enrolled in school and meet their educational goals. Policymakers must reject this legislation and support sincere efforts to improve educational outcomes for students. For these reasons, we urge you to vote against H.R. 6914. The Leadership Conference intends to include your position on H.R. 6914 in our voting records for the 118th Congress.
Thank you for your consideration. Please reach out to Tania Valencia, higher education senior program manager at [email protected] with any questions.
Sincerely,
Jesselyn McCurdy
Executive Vice President of Government Affairs
