WASHINGTON – The Leadership Conference on Civil and Human Rights today launched mobile truck billboard ads to oppose the confirmation of Amy Coney Barrett to the U.S. Supreme Court. The Senate should focus on passing legislation to get the pandemic under control, not recklessly press forward with a hearing for a nominee who jeopardizes health care access for millions of people.

The ads will be displayed on trucks that will stop at various locations with high foot and car traffic in the following cities: Phoenix, Ariz.; Asheville, Charlotte, Durham, and Raleigh, N.C.; and Spartanburg, S.C.

The ads will read as follows:

Arizonans know what’s at stake:
Our health care. Our rights. Our future. Our Supreme Court.
Senator McSally must oppose Barrett.

Taking away my health care during a pandemic?
Senator McSally, you’ve got to be kidding me.
Fight for Arizonans. Oppose Barrett for the U.S. Supreme Court.

Health care access – and a U.S. Supreme Court that won’t take it away.
That’s OUR priority, Senator McSally. What’s yours?

Statement from Lena Zwarensteyn, Fair Courts campaign director, The Leadership Conference:

“There is real urgency to getting the pandemic under control. With people still out of work, getting sick, and struggling to make ends meet, it is shameful that the Senate, despite the recent outbreak of COVID-19 on Capitol Hill, is still rushing forward with a hearing instead of providing needed relief for our communities. The Senate majority’s priorities are wrong, and Leader McConnell and Senate Republicans can no longer pretend that a rushed process to put their nominee on the Court is its most important business. The Senate should instead pass legislation to address the devasting effects of this pandemic and not rush through a nominee who would take away our health care access.”
