WASHINGTON – Meeta Anand, senior director of the census and data equity program at The Leadership Conference on Civil and Human Rights, released the following statement on H.R. 8326, the Ensuring a Fair and Accurate Census Act:

“The census is a crucial part of our democracy that must remain above partisan influences. The Ensuring a Fair and Accurate Census Act is an important step toward necessary Census Bureau reforms. Eliminating the possibility of inappropriate political interference is critical to restoring public confidence in the Census Bureau’s nonpartisan mission and moving toward a census count that accurately reflects our nation’s population. We applaud Chairwoman Maloney and her staff for their tireless oversight and advocacy to ensure future fair and accurate census counts.”
