Henderson to Congress: Ongoing Crisis of Racial Discrimination in Our Voting Systems Demands Action

WASHINGTON — Wade Henderson, interim president and CEO of The Leadership Conference on Civil and Human Rights, testified today before the House Committee on the Judiciary, Subcommittee on the Constitution, Civil Rights, and Civil Liberties on the ongoing crisis of racial discrimination in the nation’s voting systems. Providing documententation of current day voting discrimination in states across the country, Henderson highlighted the urgent need for Congress to swiftly pass the John Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act.

WASHINGTON — In a powerful op-ed in The Washington Post titled “We once backed using the filibuster. Now it must be reformed,” Wade Henderson, interim president and CEO of The Leadership Conference on Civil and Human Rights, and John Podesta, the founder and chair of the board of directors for the Center for American Progress, argue that the Senate must reform the filibuster in order to protect the freedom to vote for all Americans.

Flagrant Anti-Muslim Bias Weaponized Against SBA Nominee

WASHINGTON — The Leadership Conference on Civil and Human Rights, Bend the Arc: Jewish Action, and prominent civil rights, Jewish, and faith-based organizations and leaders today strongly denounced flagrant anti-Muslim animus targeting Dilawar Syed and his historic nomination for deputy administrator of the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA). In a letter to the Senate Small Business and Entrepreneurship Committee (SBC), the organizations and leaders called on the committee to take swift action and vote on Mr. Syed’s nomination.
