WASHINGTON – Vanita Gupta, president and CEO of The Leadership Conference on Civil and Human Rights, issued the following statement on the introduction in the House of a resolution to terminate President Trump’s “national emergency” declaration:

“We applaud Congressman Joaquin Castro’s introduction of this resolution to terminate Trump’s vanity project, and the leadership’s pledge to bring it up for a vote quickly. Lawmakers of both parties must put country over party and rebuke Trump’s power grab. There is no crisis at the border, but there is a Constitutional crisis when any president does not respect the rule of law and the role of Congress. We urge the Senate to join the House in support of this resolution. No one, not even a president, is above the law.”
