Civil Rights Community Condemns Failure to Include Homeowner Relief in Bailout Bill
Wade Henderson, president and CEO of the Leadership Conference on Civil Rights (LCCR), the nation’s oldest and largest civil and human rights coalition, released the following statement in response to bankruptcy provisions being dropped from the bailout bill:
“This bill is a huge disappointment to the civil rights community. It contains almost nothing for homeowners facing foreclosure. It’s especially outrageous for House Republicans to scuttle the mortgage bankruptcy fix while carrying the water of the very banks they condemn.
The foreclosure crisis will continue unabated and the Leadership Conference will continue to push for mortgage relief.”
