WASHINGTON – At 10:30 AM EST tomorrow, the leaders of several of the nation’s preeminent civil rights organizations will join together on a press call to applaud the nomination of Debo Adegbile to be the next Assistant Attorney General for Civil Rights at the U.S. Department of Justice. 

The call will include speakers from the NAACP, The Leadership Conference on Civil and Human Rights, the National Women’s Law Center, and the NAACP Legal Defense and Educational Fund, where Adegbile worked in various capacities for ten years.

Adegbile is one of the nation’s leading civil rights attorneys.  In addition to a lengthy resume of public service, he has argued two of the most important civil rights cases of the 21st century when he twice defended the Voting Rights Act in the Supreme Court. 

Adegbile’s life mirrors that of the American Dream. A son of immigrants from Ireland and Nigeria, Adegbile grew up in poverty with periods of homelessness to work his way through law school and one day defend American democracy in the Supreme Court.
