WASHINGTON – Wade Henderson, president and CEO of The Leadership Conference on Civil and Human Rights, issued the following statement today after the Supreme Court agreed to review United States v. Texas, the case involving President Obama’s deferred action policies, DAPA, and expanded DACA:

“We welcome the Supreme Court’s decision to hear this appeal and applaud the Obama administration for standing up for families and for the principle that people who work hard to make our country a better place deserve a chance to share in the American dream.

More than a year ago, President Obama announced deferred action policies that would provide administrative relief to hardworking immigrant families who live in our communities and contribute to our economy every day. Not only are these policies morally right, they would create jobs and expand the economy. But because of this politically motivated, anti-immigrant lawsuit, the President’s initiatives have been frozen, forcing millions of parents and children to continue to live in the shadows, in constant fear of deportation and being separated from their families.

We look forward to the Court’s consideration of this case, and are confident that the President’s executive actions will be upheld.”
