Civil and Human Rights Coalition Urges Senate to Adopt Emergency Relief Measure for Flint Water Crisis

WASHINGTON – Wade Henderson, president and CEO of The Leadership Conference on Civil and Human Rights, issued the following statement urging the Senate to adopt the amendment from Senators Debbie Stabenow and Gary Peters to provide emergency relief to those affected by the Flint water crisis:

“This is an appalling affront to human rights and the Senate must act immediately to help families who continue to be exposed to toxic levels of lead.

Over 9,000 children continue to be exposed to poisoned water and the only way to fix this is to replace Flint’s pipes.  There is no way to erase this injustice, but the Senate can help to clean up the mess and help the families who are suffering from this public health disaster.

The Senate must act now to pass the Stabenow and Peters amendment to the energy bill.”
