Media 02.22.16

WASHINGTONOn Tuesday, February 23 at 3:00 p.m. ET, the day before the Bloody Sunday marchers will receive the Congressional Gold Medal, marchers and civil rights advocates will host a press call urging Congress to honor the marchers’ sacrifice by restoring the Voting Rights Act.

In 2015, Congress unanimously passed legislation to honor the Bloody Sunday marchers with its highest civilian honor.  But a year later, lawmakers have done nothing to advance two bipartisan VRA restoration bills.

On the call, Reverend C.T. Vivian, a leader of the Bloody Sunday march, will call on Congress to restore the Voting Rights Act that he fought so hard to pass in 1965.
