Leadership Conference Education Fund Releases Annual ‘Civil Rights Monitor’

WASHINGTON – The Leadership Conference Education Fund today released the 2017 edition of The Civil Rights Monitor, a narrative and journalistic review of the year’s civil and human rights developments.

This edition of the Civil Rights Monitor takes a look back at President Obama’s tenure in the White House, and chronicles Supreme Court decisions important to the civil and human rights community, recent developments in policing and technology, the significance of a fair and accurate count of the incarcerated population in the 2020 census, and the expansion of broadband access to millions of Americans. This year’s Monitor also brings substantive commentary on voting rights, judicial and executive nominations, economic security, criminal justice reform, LGBT issues, and education equity.

“The work of the civil and human rights movement must continue,” said Wade Henderson, president and CEO of The Leadership Conference Education Fund, in the publication’s forward-looking introduction. “We must resolve to tackle these new challenges with the same creativity, agility, and focus that has brought us so much success in the past. There is far too much left to accomplish.”
