Civil and Human Rights Coalition Disappointed by Senate Approval of John K. Bush

WASHINGTON— Vanita Gupta, president and CEO of The Leadership Conference on Civil and Human Rights, released the following statement after the Senate’s confirmation of John K. Bush to the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit:

“It is a sad day for the Senate and the American people when an individual like John Bush can be confirmed for a lifetime position on the federal bench. Few nominees in history have had such a clear record of extreme and intemperate remarks. Federal judges must be impartial and fair – two qualities that Mr. Bush clearly lacks. He has a demonstrated record of hostility to the principle of equal protection under the law, and his confirmation undermines the judicial branch and rule of law.”

In June, The Leadership Conference urged the Senate Judiciary Committee to reject the Bush nomination. More information on that letter is available here.
