Civil and Human Rights Coalition Condemns Trump’s Immigration Principles

WASHINGTON – Vanita Gupta, president and CEO of The Leadership Conference on Civil and Human Rights, issued the following statement on the immigration principles released by the White House last night:

“Last night, the White House put forth a list of demands that is meant to kill any hope for a bipartisan agreement to save Dreamers from Trump’s deportation machine. If Congress wants to show real leadership, it will make clear that this new proposal is a nonstarter. Congress has before it a bipartisan Dream Act with widespread support that will solve the crisis that President Trump created. Congress should pass it without divisive amendments and without further delay.”

The Leadership Conference on Civil and Human Rights is a coalition charged by its diverse membership of more than 200 national organizations to promote and protect the rights of all persons in the United States.
