Civil and Human Rights Coalition Condemns Trump’s Executive Order to Undermine Health Care

WASHINGTON – Vanita Gupta, president and CEO of The Leadership Conference on Civil and Human Rights, issued the following statement on President Trump’s heath care Executive Order:

“Now that President Trump and the Republican Congress failed to end the Affordable Care Act by legislation, the president is sabotaging the law by executive action. Today’s move is their effort to put another nail in the coffin. This order will only drive up costs for the sick, and put the health of millions at risk. People all across the country spoke out and demanded that the Affordable Care Act remains the law of the land, and it should be vigorously and equitably implemented and enforced.

Health care is a fundamental human right, and an issue of economic security. Where you live, or how much you earn, should not dictate your ability to access affordable health care. Instead of continuing down this path of undermining the health of the nation, our leaders in Congress must work together to find ways to improve health care for all, including people with disabilities, people of color, women, LGBTQ people, people whose primary language is not English, seniors, and low- and moderate-income families.”
