Civil and Human Rights Coalition Urges Senate to Reject Flawed Budget Proposal

WASHINGTON – Vanita Gupta, president and CEO of The Leadership Conference on Civil and Human Rights, issued the following statement on the budget resolution pending before the Senate:

“Budgets are a reflection of our values, but the Senate Republican proposal is out of step with the values of most people in America. It is just a vehicle for massive tax cuts for millionaires, billionaires, and wealthy corporations at the expense of working and low-income families, including communities of color. It would exacerbate income inequality by enriching the well-off and cutting trillions of dollars from health care, education, and other programs that are vital to the economic security of the rest of us.

Congress has a responsibility to fund the programs that support America’s working families while making critical investments that grow our economy and invest in our collective future. The Senate should reject this budget and tax proposal and instead focus on efforts that expand opportunity for all and protect the most vulnerable among us.”
