Civil and Human Rights Coalition Applauds Federal Court Ruling Restoring DACA Program; Calls on Congress to Act

WASHINGTON – Vanita Gupta, president and CEO of The Leadership Conference on Civil and Human Rights, issued the following statement following a ruling by a federal court for the Trump administration to reinstate the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program:

“Last September, President Trump manufactured a crisis when he ended the DACA program. While a federal court has offered a beacon of hope by recognizing that this cruel action was likely unlawful and has caused irreparable harm, its order offers only limited protections and leaves many Dreamers without a path to stay in the only country they know. Only action by Congress can solve this urgent crisis. This ruling shows that it is imperative for lawmakers to act without further delay to provide certainty to Dreamers once and for all.”
